Ceasefires With Hamas Sure are Bloody

In an expected but tragic move, Iran is using the recent ceasefire between Gaza and Israel as a chance to rearm Hamas.  This means the ceasefire will be rather bloody as it is simply a chance for Hamas to rearm before restarting its attacks on Israel.

According to the report, Iran began preparing the weapons shipment around the same time Israel and Hamas negotiated cease-fire understandings late last week.
The shipment is said to include Iranian-made Fajr-5 medium-range rockets, the same model that was fired into the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem areas during Operation Pillar of Defense, the Times reported.

Mike Huckabee's FRC Speech

In 2007 Mike Huckabee's speech at the FRC conference helped kick his presidential campaign into high gear. I was unable to listen to all of it do to the press gathering around Pence. However I think he received more standing ovations than Mike Pence. He concluded with very forceful comments on foreign policy. He called Obama to stand with the people of Iran AND the people of Israel. He also received a standing ovation when he called out the left for "protecting terrorists more than the people". He also challenged the idea that we need to move to the center, just as Mike Pence did. However he compared us to David and how he fought with a sling instead of the armor he was reccomended to use to fight Goliath. The speech was finished with a call to serve the Lord as we retake America.

It will be interesting to see how the audeince takes the two speeches as they vote in the strawpoll.

Mike Huckabee's Thoughts on the Iranian Election

The following video is Mike Huckabee's thoughts on the Iranian situation. In it he reminds us of the importance of standing strong in supporting the Iranian people, and opposing the dictatorship.

U.S. House Passes Resolution Opposing Crackdown on Iranian Protestors

In a sermon today, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared that if the opponents of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continued to protest their would be violence. He also declared that the vote in Iran was a fair vote. (He was referring to the vote where Ahmadinejad won his opponents home area, and the results for the nation were announced in neat million vote blocks a half hour after the election.)

In response to these statements, and President Obamas inactivity on this issue Rep. Mike Pence introduced a resolution that condemned Tehran's crackdown on protestors. While discussing the resolution, Mike Pence said, "When Ronald Reagan went before the Brandenburg Gate, he did not say Mr. (Mikhail) Gorbachev, that wall is none of our business." The Democrat Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and cosponsor of the resolution said, "It is not for us to decide who should run Iran, much less determine the real winner of the June 12 election. But we must reaffirm our strong belief that the Iranian people have a fundamental right to express their views about the future of their country freely and without intimidation." The resolution passed the house on a vote of 405-1. The sole dissenting vote was from the king of isolationism and the friend of liberty Dr. Ron Paul.

Senators McCain and Lieberman are considering introducing a similar bill in the senate.

Two Martin Luther King Jr. quotes are particularly poignant when considering the Iranian situation. When it comes to the Iranian protestors...

I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.

In regards to our need to stand up with the Iranians...

Message concerning Iran from College Republican National Committee Chair Zach Howell

Back in 1981 when the tyrannical Soviet regime was cracking down on the Polish people, Ronald Reagan publicized a telephone conversation he had with the Pope that contained this line, "Our sympathies are with the people, not the government."

Right now, the Iranian people are protesting on the streets of Iran's capital, Tehran – demanding their freedo m, and yet President Barack Obama remains silent.

On the campaign trail, Obama constantly stressed the need to employ America's soft power, our moral and diplomatic clout, around the globe. If there was ever a time to expend America's reserves of soft power in the pursuit of freedom, it is now.

If our leaders will not stand up to tyranny when it stares us in the face, then we must. While the fight for the future of Iran and peace in the Middle East at large is going on inside Iran, there are things you can do to help the Iranian people.

Last Friday when the Iranian people went to the polls to elect a new president, the election was widely seen as a choice between the radical, holocaust-denying incumbent, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the reform-minded challenger Mir Hossein Mousavi. The election was thought to be closely contested, and opinion polls leading up to election day showed Mousavi leading the vote.

So when the results were announced, mere hours after the polls closed on Friday, showing Ahmadinejad with an unbelievable two-to-one lead over Mousavi, even winning overwhelming in Mousavi’s hometown, people cried fraud.

Over the weekend, protesters took to the streets of Tehran and other cities in Iran demonstrating in the largest protests since the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

As you read this email Iranian students are risking their lives to protest in the streets, to spread their message via social networking sites like Twitter -- while the mullahs and Revolutionary Guard watch and wait, trying to decide whether to mow them down, make them disappear, or give in to their demands.

Meanwhile, the leader of the free world is AWOL. No threats of sanctions. No standing up for the people in the streets. No refusal to recognize the sham government that won via fraud. But Americans can do better. We must.

The Iranian Revolution and Twitter

Right now the Iranian people are protesting the results of their recent election. Just like most totalitarian regimes, the Iranian government is trying to crack down on the protestors, and keep the media from covering it. Right now the main source of information on the events is twitter. Even the New York Times wrote an article entitled Dear CNN, Please Check Twitter for News about Iran. In this critical moment for freedom in Iran, twitter is planning to shut down for 90 minutes starting at 9:45 pacific time. If you have twitter, please message them @twitter and ask them to delay this maintenance so that Iranians can use it to get the word out about what is going on in their nation.
